Anticipated Adventures: Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
Anticipated Adventures is a regular feature at Reader Voracious where I highlight and discuss upcoming releases I can’t wait to get my hands on!
📣 This week, I’m shining the spotlight on Cinderella is Dead, a compelling reimagining of Cinderella featuring queer black girls overthrowing the patriarchy!
About Cinderella is Dead
Publisher: Bloomsbury YA | Release Date: July 7, 2020 | Pages: 400
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Retellings, LGBTQIAP+
Sixteen-year-old Sophia would much rather marry Erin, her childhood best friend, than parade in front of suitors. At the ball, Sophia makes the desperate decision to flee, and finds herself hiding in Cinderella’s mausoleum. There, she meets Constance, the last known descendant of Cinderella and her step sisters. Together they vow to bring down the king once and for all–and in the process, they learn that there’s more to Cinderella’s story than they ever knew . . .
This fresh take on a classic story will make readers question the tales they’ve been told, and root for girls to break down the constructs of the world around them.
I am not even lying when I say that Cinderella is my favorite Disney film from childhood (next to Beauty and the Beast for obvious bookshelves reasons). When I found out about this diverse reimagining I was excited, and then I saw the cover. Talk about stunning!
I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book and am looking forward to reading it in June!

I love this enamel pin so much and can’t wait to receive mine!
With everything going on in the world right now and some publication dates being pushed back, I want to do my part to boost books I’m excited for… especially since my reading capacity on ARCs has been zero for weeks.
