Anticipated Adventures: Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee
Anticipated Adventures is a regular feature at Reader Voracious where I highlight and discuss upcoming releases I can’t wait to get my hands on!
📣 This week, I’m shining the spotlight another of my most highly anticipated releases of this year! Forest of Souls is the first book in a new YA fantasy series with themes of loyalty, friendship, and fighting to belong.
"Danger lurks within the roots of Forest of Souls, an epic, unrelenting tale of destiny and sisterhood."
Today's Anticipated Adventure feature is Forest of Souls by @LoriMLee! I'm so excited for this fantasy hitting shelves June 23!

About Forest of Souls
Publisher: Page Street Kids | Release Date: June 23, 2020 | Pages: 400
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Sirscha Ashwyn comes from nothing, but she’s intent on becoming something. After years of training to become the queen’s next royal spy, her plans are derailed when shamans attack and kill her best friend Saengo.
And then Sirscha, somehow, restores Saengo to life.
Unveiled as the first soulguide in living memory, Sirscha is summoned to the domain of the Spider King. For centuries, he has used his influence over the Dead Wood—an ancient forest possessed by souls—to enforce peace between the kingdoms. Now, with the trees growing wild and untamed, only a soulguide can restrain them. As war looms, Sirscha must master her newly awakened abilities before the trees shatter the brittle peace, or worse, claim Saengo, the friend she would die for.
First of all, the cover! Sirscha looks so fierce. Forest of Souls sounds like a lush fantasy story that blends some of my favorite elements: court intrigue with the queen’s spy situation and mystical elements. Plus, a focus on friendships? Always yes!
Fun fact: I am terrified of spiders, so I will probably be reading my eARC during daylight hours only. *shudders*
“This isn’t an “Asian fantasy,” according to my own definitions (it might be, according to yours, and that’s okay). But it is “Asians in fantasy.” It’s a mishmash of my favorite western fantasy tropes alongside bits of my own cultural influences and a magical system *inspired* by Hmong shamanism.“ – Lori M. Lee on Goodreads (emphasis mine)

With everything going on in the world right now and some publication dates being pushed back, I want to do my part to boost books I’m excited for… especially since my reading capacity on ARCs has been zero for weeks.
