Bookish Banter | eReader Recommendations!

Happy Friday, voracious readers! Welcome to my first Bookish Banter post, which are discussion posts here on Reader Voracious Blog. This series of posts can be where I talk about my favorite books or ask the community for feedback on a topic; today is one of the latter!

I have always preferred physical books, and absolutely refused eBooks up until 2014. I was backpacking through South America for three months, and my plan to utilize “Take a Book, Leave a Book” libraries in hostels wasn’t going 100% according to plan… a lot of the books were in Portuguese! When I was enjoying the sun and sights in Arequipa, Peru I wandered into a Radioshack and left with a tablet ($35 after conversion!) and began getting sucked into series via free Kindle book offers. This trip and the Kindle app is what led me to take more chances with books and broadened my horizons!

Well that little tablet is finally on its last leg, and I have switched to using the Kindle app on my mobile phone. Which works just fine, but I miss having a larger device so I am considering getting an eReader. The problem is there are so many on the market! Do you have an eReader or tablet? What do you use for eBooks and would you recommend it? I am super interested in your feedback!

I can totally relate to you! I was backpacking as well and kinda got stuck at that one hostel, where I started working.. And I got too many books while I was there. I had to leave almost all of them when I moved on! After that, I decided I will only travel with my Kindle.

I have the Kindle Paperwhite and am happy with it. Could be a bit faster sometimes but apart from that, it has every feature I wanted. Especially the light function is awesome. It has a touchscreen and looks very pretty^^

One of my biggest dreams is to work in a hostel someday! I met some really fun people in Quito that offered for me to stick around, but I was at the end of my trip and needed to get to Bogota for my return flight. Traveling with eBooks though is the way to go!!! Where did you backpack?!

Thanks so much for letting me know what you have, that one definitely looks the best for the price range – and the wifi + cellphone option seems pretty neat as well!

Northern Ireland 🙂 But it wasn’t really backpacking, as I was stuck at that one place for almost the whole time haha! It was just too much fun!

I DID make trips from there though, so it was alright 😀

I bet that was incredible! I wish I had made my way up to Northern Ireland when I studied abroad in Edinburgh, but we just did a weekend jaunt in Dublin.

Wow, studying in Edinburgh must have been great! Unfortunately I never made it to Scotland and I am pretty annoyed at it! I was so close….

Okay, 1) seriously jealous of the backpacking around South America life. #Goals
    2) Jess and I both have iPad minis and use Kindle and iBooks (Apple). The iPad mini is the perfect size and is convenient because you don’t need a light and we have iPhones so everything syncs across our devices. Apple products are expensive but an iPad mini is great at being multidisciplinary 🙂

      1) it was amazing and probably my favorite 3 month period of my life, other than the six weeks I spent in Scotland the previous summer! I miss the freedom of life before real adulting… why can’t I just take off and live abroad for 3 months whenever I want?!
      2) Thanks for chiming in on your devices, Teagan! Originally I was thinking about getting an iPad but I moved away from the iPhone a couple of years ago and am an Android gal these days so the synching isn’t as important, but the mini size IS a good one!
