The Reader Voracious Patreon launched in May 2019 and over the past two years I’ve been so fortunate to build a small patron community as I carve this new path of creative expression. It’s been an interesting experiment as when I launched my Patreon there really weren’t other book bloggers in that space. Even now it remains taboo for book bloggers to seek financial support and compensation for the work we put into our blogs… but that’s a discussion for another day.
Over the past couple of months I’ve been tinkering behind the scenes to expand my Patreon offerings and give me an outlet for posts I want to write but don’t necessarily have a place here on Reader Voracious. And I’m so excited to announce the new Patreon perks to you all – but no pressure to join, ever!

Reasoning Behind Content Segmentation
I know that the past year has been really difficult on my creativity and I haven’t been producing as much as I hoped. I put a lot of internalized pressure on myself to produce guides & spreadsheets for Patreon content as I feel like organization became my personality. But there’s only so much I can do with spreadsheets and guide topics are finite (so I space them out). I thought this was all people could ever want from me.
I contain multitudes. In addition to being an Organizational Hoe, I also like analyzing pop culture, writing essays, diving deep into just how weird the real world is getting & how some advances would have been scoffed at if they appeared in sci-fi. These are topics I’ve wanted to explore because they intellectually stimulate me, but I didn’t feel like they had a place here on my blog. So in the drafts they went to die. But then I realized something… I can and should segment my content. Because fact of the matter is, most patrons join to support the creator rather than the output itself – at least that’s my thinking when I subscribe to other creators.
The New Patreon Tiers & Perks
$2 Tier: Voracious Readers remains unchanged except the addition of the annual holiday card benefit (this used to be a $5 perk), reading vlogs, TBR Control & Discussion Topic poll voting, and early access to guide & discussion posts are included for all patrons at this tier and above.
$5 Tier: Bookish Adventurers remains unchanged except the addition of exclusive access to Stranger Than Fiction essays (see an example of what you can expect in this blog post about Sophia the Robot)
$10 Tier: Book Champions remains unchanged except the addition of exclusive access to Spicy Hot Take essays (NEW) (in the pipeline: Wicked Saints=trash, My Problem With the Romance in Shatter Me, An Essay about If We Were Villains) and perhaps original poetry.
$15 and $25 tiers have been removed and combined into one new $20 tier
$20 Tier: Bookish Philosophers combines the existing spreadsheet, linking your logo on my Supporters page, and quarterly holiday cards benefits with the addition of exclusive access to Pop Culture Analysis essays (NEW) (an example of what you can expect is available in this free patreon post on the Importance of Pop Culture Analysis and Battlestar Galactica)
Other Patron Perks
TBR Control is back in an upgraded form! It turns out my brain does this thing where as soon as I say I am going to read/need to read something it is the last thing I want to do. Which is arguably stupid. The monthly expectation to read a book kind of… gave me a lot of anxiety because I don’t enjoy feeling like I’m letting people down… So the TBR control is back on a quarterly basis!
- Bookish Adventurers & Above will be able to nominate any books off my Owned TBR list for the quarterly poll and all patrons regardless of tier will get to vote in the quarterly poll.
Take control of my posting schedule and determine the topic of my monthly discussion posts on Reader Voracious! These discussions will be free and available to everyone here on my blog, but the prioritization of topics will be determined by patrons.
- Bookish Adventurers & Above will be able to nominate any of my draft topics or suggest their own for a poll and all patrons regardless of tier will get to vote in the monthly poll.
Monthly patron-only updates where I will be a little more open about my personal life on Patreon. This largely includes discussions about my disability I don’t put out publicly, but likely this will evolve as we move along. These updates will also still include a look ahead at my planned blogging schedule for the month and any upcoming plans/teasers. I will also do my best to post these at the beginning of the month lol.
Planned Content Frequency
I want to be clear that my mind is always more ambitious than my actual capabilities. I am doing my best to take advantage of my energy when I have it to compensate for my cyclical lows.
- My goal for Stranger than Fiction post frequency is once per month.
- Spicy Hot Takes are largely dependent on what’s going on and inspiration is not as predictable as other essay forms. My hope is that it will average to 4-6 posts a year, but could be more.
- Pop Culture Analysis Essays are pretty intensive undertakings to do them with the quality that I want. My hope is that it will average to 4-6 posts a year, but could be more as I have some thesis-related writing I can share that’s already written.
- My goal is to post 1 guide & 1 discussion post per month, which will ideally be 2 early access posts per month. Of course, guides are subject to relevant topics and my spoons; they often get delayed.
Old content and posts will remain with their previous access levels, so everything that was available to existing to patrons prior to the tier changes is still accessible.

Patron Promotion
To commemorate and celebrate this new stage of my digital strategy I’m running a promotion on Patreon! All new patrons and patrons who upgrade their tier by April 15, 2021 will receive a vinyl sticker I designed to celebrate this new chapter!

This sticker will be printed on vinyl adhesive paper and will look so good on water bottles, outdoors gear, or whatever your heart desires.
As an additional note: coinciding with this post and the promotion, I have changed the billing method so new patrons pay their first month up front instead of on the first day of the next month. I’ve had ~5 people join and leave after getting downloadables and want to avoid this moving forward as I have a new template project in the works! This should not affect any of current patrons.

Thank you so much for your consistent support, whether it be financial or emotional!
I am genuinely so excited about these updates. I have a fervor for writing I haven’t felt in a long time as I’ve largely fallen into staying afloat with reviews only (and always being behind on them).
As always there is never any pressure for you to join or support me financially. The last year especially has been a rough time financially for so many of us, and I would much rather you have the money you need rather than me fund blog projects.
Letβs go on another adventure together!
That’s really great! I thought about this having my own Patreon but then I only write reviews and hardly there is any creative posts from me so I don’t know if anyone would even pay for reviews that they can find somewhere free.
Ahh, thanks so much for your comment Yesha! I think we all sell ourselves short and there are likely people out there who’d love more from us if we put ourselves out there, so if you are inspired and want to give it a try I say do it!
YAYYYY another book blogger on Patreon!! I have a page too and itβs so fun to get to create extra content for my blog and followers. Your tiers look so nice!! π
I’ve been on Patreon with bookish content for two years, but I agree that it’s so fun to create extra content. Thanks for checking out my patreon & your tier compliment
The way I’m having an internal conflict about which tier I want and the external conflict of my wallet being ignored LMAO. This update looks so good Kal! Don’t be shocked if you see me sliding in again like that Julie Andrews gif
