Sci-Fi Month: November TBR
Greetings, readers! Those of you that have been around here for awhile know that I don’t normally do a strict monthly TBR (to be read). While I do have an idea of what I am hoping to get to based on review request responsibilities, I tend to leave things rather open for mood reading. I know myself and considering I slump it up at least 5 days out of the month, I don’t want to feel stressed out for not reading so I avoid TBRs.
But for Sci-fi month I have a number of science fiction books from my owned TBR stack that I have buddy reads scheduled for and I am so excited!
In case you had an any doubt about my obsession with Battlestar Galactica, yes. That is a painting that I did of Starbuck’s mandala and it hangs in my living room. Now that we got that out of the way…
- Through the Hostage by J.C. Steel
- Warcross by Marie Lu | Buddy read with Becca!
- Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda
- This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada | Buddy read with Becca!
- This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada | Buddy read with Becca!
- Asylum by Madeline Roux | Buddy read with Destiny! (not sci-fi)
- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo | Buddy read with Sam! (not sci-fi, eBook)
- The Sorrows by Jonathan Janz (eARC)
Yes, 50% of my reading this month is with Becca and I see no problem with that! We also have Illuminae on our list but I am thinking we won’t be able to get to that one this month.
Have you read any of these books? Are any on your TBR? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Let’s go on another adventure together!

November 7, 2018 at 9:34 AMI totally read GREETINGS READERS in a very masculine voice.
ANYWAYS. Six of Crows is AMAZING. I hope you and Sam will enjoy it! You two know where to find me lurking if necessary… haha. I have plans to read Warcross, but I highly doubt I’ll get to it since that’s what I always say. “Oh, I’ll get to it this month.” It’s becoming an issue.
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 11, 2018 at 6:11 PMBased on how this month’s reading has gone so far, I don’t know that we will get to Warcross this month either. And I better like Six of Crows, I think you were the reason I bought it when it was on sale!

November 7, 2018 at 3:18 PMGreat TBR! I want to read a lot of these books but especially Warcross and Six of Crows. I want to finish the Grisha Trilogy first though.
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 11, 2018 at 6:14 PMThank you! I haven’t read anything from the Grishaverse yet but friends recommended I skip the trilogy and just start with SoC. My completionist soul is trying to come to terms with that!

November 7, 2018 at 4:59 PMHope all the reads are good! I enjoyed Warcross and really need to get to the sequel!
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious

November 7, 2018 at 10:13 PMThis is such a good TBR! So many good ones. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Warcross! I loved it a lot when I read it, but it’s one of those books where I can’t help but wonder if I would love it as much now that I tend to be a little less… this is gonna sound harsh, but “easily impressed” by ARCs? But I still think I’d give it at least 4 stars because it was so much fun and I loved the gaming rep in it. I also liked Pitch Dark a lot so I’m excited to hear your thoughts on it, too! And I had a blast buddy reading Asylum with you. ♥
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:37 AMI am really excited to get to Warcross, gaming rep is my LIFE! I know what you mean though, I have become incredibly critical over the last few months when it comes to books and I am kind of hard to impress in general. I don’t give many 5 stars but to me that means when I read one it is more special to me! I started Pitch Dark last night and am LOVING IT so far, thanks so much for that rec!
Marie
November 8, 2018 at 4:49 AMAhhh, I am so excited for you to read both This Mortal Coil and This Cruel Design on here. I only read the first book so far, haven’t had the chance to get to the second one yet, but I can’t wait. I love the first one SO much. I hope you’ll enjoy them, will be looking forward to your thoughts! 🙂
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:40 AMI read This Mortal Coil over the weekend and HOLY CRAP. Why haven’t people been shoving this book at me at every opportunity?! I loved it so so so so much, such an incredible book! Looking forward to picking up This Cruel Design tomorrow with my buddies!
Marie
November 13, 2018 at 10:29 AMAHTHIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! I know, right? People need to be screaming about this book more, it’s incredible. I hope you’ll love this cruel design, I can’t wait to read it 😀

November 8, 2018 at 6:06 AMOooh I hope you have fun buddy reading with your friend! I really wanna read Warcross soon but I hate waiting for a book to be released, so I’ll start only after the entire series has been published. Six of Crows was a lot of fun to read–it’s an excellent fantasy heist novel and I hope you love it as much as I did <3
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:42 AMI also really dislike waiting for books to come out, but I have gotten better about avoiding series unless they are finished this year. I am excited for Six of Crows!

November 8, 2018 at 6:49 AMI missed a good deal on Six of Crows a few months ago 😭 💔
I know of most of the books you mentioned and wish I could get them one day.
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:43 AMAwww, I picked up SoC on a Kindle deal a few months back, I hope it gets discounted again soon so you can pick it up!
Phantom Paper
November 18, 2018 at 11:18 PMHaha, yes 😄 I wanna get myself a kindle when I can, too. Do you think it’s better than reading on your phone?
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 19, 2018 at 8:41 AMI actually haven’t taken the plunge to get a Kindle yet, but I may ask for one for Christmas as my stepmom will buy me stuff I don’t need if I don’t give them a list, lol. I don’t mind reading on my phone with the Kindle app, though.
Phantom Paper
November 23, 2018 at 12:15 AMOh yeah, I remember seeing you tweet about it 😄 It’s a lucky thing you like reading on your phone, I still prefer the physical form. One blogger says the kindle is kinder on the eyes…so I’m eyeing one, too, haha

November 8, 2018 at 9:02 AMLove your list! I have a copy of This Mortal Coil, not sure i’ll manage it this month tho…
Have fun with the buddy reads 🙂
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:44 AMNorrie. NORRIE. You should drop everything and read This Mortal Coil. I finished it yesterday and absolutely was blown away with it; and our buddy read has turned into a marathon of the novella + book 2 now. It’s like the Week of Suvada in my world.

November 9, 2018 at 2:08 PMI really want to read Six of Crows! Let me know how it is. Can’t wait to read your review. Right now I am reading My MacArthur (just released indie)–historical fiction. I love it so far!
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:47 AMI will definitely let you know! The read got pushed back because my life has been consumed by This Mortal Coil, but I still expect to review it before the end of the month!

November 11, 2018 at 11:32 PMI liked Shadow and Bone and don’t like skipping books if they’re connected but I’ve also heard you can read the SoCs duology on its own.
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:56 AMI also really dislike skipping books, I am a completionist at heart but trust my friends when they say I probably wouldn’t enjoy the triology.
sepiareads
November 13, 2018 at 9:01 AMYeah, I’d do that too but I’ve started it and feel I’ll enjoy the rest.
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 9:17 AMOh that’s good! No reason to skip for you!

November 12, 2018 at 8:03 AMomg I want to read Warcross so much!!??? I remember loving her other books, in high school, but for some reason, unknown to science, I’ve delayed going through her newest books dsklfjsl
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:57 AMI am really excited to finally get around to reading it! I hope you get to it soon too, and love it! I haven’t read anything by the author yet but I have heard many good things.

November 12, 2018 at 8:46 AMAhhhh I’m rewatching BSG at the moment – I love the first few series (although if I’m honest, I’m less fond of the final series).
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 13, 2018 at 8:58 AMBSG is love! I really loved the entire series if I am being honest, although I am still a little meh with the Starbuck stuff at the end. I am actually due for a rewatch, so I think it is time I dig out the boxed set.

Asylum is attracting me – I just hope this horror wouldnt let me down if I do pick it, ahah
Lots of buddy reads !! hopefully both of you have fun reading it together xx
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
November 18, 2018 at 10:29 AMSO MANY BUDDY READS! It has been amazing so far! Asylum wasn’t as scary as I was hoping it would be, unfortunately, but it was an interesting read nonetheless!
