The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

The Shadows Between Us is the Slytherin romance I never knew I needed! I absolutely devoured this book in one five-hour sitting, finishing at 2am and wired from what an amazing read it is. Worth it.

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

The Shadows Between Us is a fast-paced fantasy standalone that is easily bingeable. Set in a fantasy kingdom with court politics and a new king, the book marries historical elements with modern feminist ideas for a powerful and empowering tale.

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones

What an enjoyable, original, and fast-paced read! I’m really glad that OwlCrate included this book in the September 2019 box (just look at the cover!)!

It’s a weird feeling writing a full review six months after reading a book, but trust me when I say that The Bone Houses is a memorable read that’s stuck with me long after finishing it. It is truly a crime that more people aren’t talking about this fantasy horror with a soft relationship and truly touching sibling relationships!

I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall

I Am Still Alice is a powerful story of survival. Reading this one had me on the edge of my seat and fully invested.

“If you can’t be strong, you have to be smart. And smart is better than strong, out here.”

This book made me feel things, friends. It’s evocative, tense, and compelling and made my heart hurt so much while reading it. But there’s also a lot of hope and Jess’ grit to survive no matter the setbacks also filled my heart.

Ink in the Blood (Ink in the Blood #1) by Kim Smejkal

I am so excited to bring you my (late) review for Ink in the Blood as part of the blog tour! This was supposed to go up last week, but my hospital visits kind of disrupted my reading. But good things come to those who wait!

“You two are bright stars in the Rabble Mob, and the Rabble Mob is family.”

I first fell in love with this book when I saw the cover reveal last year, and friends, let me tell you that the insides of this dark fantasy debut from Kim Smejkal most certainly match!

Smekjal’s writing is lush and beautiful with beautiful descriptions, but is also fast-paced and engaging. We jump straight into the thick of the story, and I love the way that we are introduced to the world. The action, character introduction, and worldbuilding are all introduced slowly while not sacrificing one aspect of the story for another.
