We all have those books that stay with you long after you’ve finished reading them. Some books are just special and touch us in magical ways that make them impossible to shake (not like we want to forget them).
If you are anything like me, you might feel like a broken record when constantly screaming about This Mortal Coil, Ace of Shades, or other amazing books that I’ve read and boosted. For some reason I put pressure on myself to not repeat myself too much on social media, which is honestly silly considering the average time before a tweet goes stale is 20 minutes. I wanted to come up with something new to frame sharing those much-loved books again so I could not feel guilty about screaming about the book some more. And thus #backlist boost was born!
How to Participate
- Pick a book that was published prior to the current calendar year (so 2018 or older) that you want to scream about.
- Take a photo of said book if you want to do a visual.
- On Fridays, share on your social media accounts (I will be tracking mostly on Twitter but will try to follow the hashtag on Instagram as well) with the hashtag #backlistboost.
That’s it! I envision #backlistboost to be a weekly gleeful shouting session on social media. My personal plan is to post a weekly book photo with a brief shout about the book and why I loved it and see what other books I am missing out on.
Some of the early responses that I’ve seen on Twitter have some really cool ideas that I didn’t think of, and I can’t wait to see how this evolves. Honestly, if you want to go a step further and have this be a weekly blog post or a way for you to chip away at your backlist TBR I am all for it!
If you do wind up making a weekly post, all I ask is that you link back to this post so others can find out more information and join in.

I am planning on keeping this post updated with my weekly photos because I’m extra.
What are your thoughts on this new weekly social media “meme”? Do you think you will join in and share some of your favorite books from years past? I can’t wait to see what everyone boosts!
Let’s go on another adventure together!
yassssss I shall join, I have been waiting for this moment since I started blogging honestly, I never really feel like I can join in shouting about new releases since I don’t really read ARCs at all and new releases get read when they’re then backlist books soooo ya backlist book dragon is here to shriek about this!
YES QUEEN, I am so excited to have you joining in! Especially because this is like your wheelhouse. I am excited to see all the books that you boost and screech about, Clo!
phahaha backlist books are my loves, which reminds me I’m gonna create a spread for the backlist books I wanna shout out xD
Ooh, this sounds like so much fun! Sooooo many books that I love are older books, not the newest releases.
I am the same way, I have so many books that I’ve loved for a long time but feel like I don’t have a lot of room to screech about them more regularly. I am excited to change that though haha
I LOVE this idea and can’t wait to join in!
YESSSSS!!! I am excited to have you joining in, Destiny!
I might join next week! I don’t read a lot of books released in 2019 so I have a lot of books to talk about.
I would love to have you join in, Jamsu!
What a great idea, I’m in.
Awesome, excited to see all the books that you boost!
Oooh this is a great idea! I’ll definitely try to participate!
YAY, I would love to have you join in love!
This is a lovely idea and there are so many good blacklisted books that I love!! Can’t wait to see this on social media and hopefully I will get to participate!! 😊
Yayyy! Join in on the fun and use the #backlistboost hashtag; I can’t wait to see the books you choose!
Reiterating again that I love this idea!
BTW, I also fear repeating myself on social media – I tweet out my daily post twice a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon. On the occasions I tweet the same link a third time, the back of my brain goes “Ooooo, now are you being annoying?” But the tweets disappear so fast into the void of the algorithm so……
Thank you so much, I am glad you do!
I am honestly SO BAD about promoting my posts twice most of the time, lol. I am trying to be better about it this month though to see if it makes a difference and it hasn’t caused me to lose a bunch of followers so????
I’m definitely going to try and participate in this soon! This year I’ve been reading so many backlist books, and I definitely want to shout out some of the amazing ones I’ve read recently!
Yes, I definitely can’t wait to see you join in and shout about some of your favorite backlist books!
This is such a lovely idea, Kal and such an important thing to talk about! I’ll try to participate on my Twitter while I can, can’t wait to see other people’s posts! Happiest of reading 💖

oooh this is such an awesome idea! 🙂
Thank you so much!
Thank you for creating what I need that I didn’t know I needed. I’m constantly doing “Books that changed my life” posts and really I just want to scream about books I read in middle school and high school that I need other people to also love!
YAY and I am looking forward to having you join us in boosting those backlist books that you love!
i love this idea so much and definitely want to remember to take part. thank you for creating something to celebrate other authors! 🙂
I am so glad you like this and I look forward to having your participate when you remember!
What a great idea! I’m horrible at reading new releases most of my reads are backlist so I excited to get the chance to share them more!
Thank you so much, and I hope to see you joining in!
Oh, cool idea!
I have like 200+ books that were published before this year… just slowly making my way through them, but keep getting distracted shiny new stuff getting released now 😀
I really want to somehow keep myself dedicated to actually read the books I own, because it bums me out to think about how many of the books I haven’t read yet. New shiny releases are definitely a culprit, as well as re-reads I think. It doesn’t help that my memory sucks and I have to re-read before next-in-series releases!
