It is with great excitement that Kate @ Your Tita Kate and I announce we are organizing a read-along for A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna starting on August 4th! The sequel, A House of Rage and Sorrow, comes out on September 3 and we thought it was the perfect time to host a read-along and get everyone ready for the sequel’s release.
This book is one of my favorite reads and is a retelling of the Mahabharata. If you enjoy political intrigue, space operas, complex characters, and amazing world-building A Spark of White Fire is for you! But don’t take my word for it…
Raised alone and far away from her home on Kali, Esmae longs to return to her family. When the King of Wychstar offers to gift the unbeatable, sentient warship Titania to a warrior that can win his competition, she sees her way home: she’ll enter the competition, reveal her true identity to the world, and help her famous brother win back the crown of Kali.
It’s a great plan. Until it falls apart.
Inspired by the Mahabharata and other ancient Indian stories, A Spark of White Fire is a lush, sweeping space opera about family, curses, and the endless battle between jealousy and love.

I bought this book because of your amazing review, i feel like I should read it with this readalong, this past month I really overwhelmed myself and couldn’t do my buddy reads properly but I really laid off on August, but no matter what I’m definitely boosting this as much as I can. This sounds like so much fun!!!! So thanks to you and Kate for setting this up!

Oh, this is one of my favorite books haha! I read an arc of it last year and LOVED IT, and have been wanting to find a way to boost it some more. I am glad you loved the book too!

I did!! I read it as part of the IndLitReadathon and it was amazing! It was beautifully designed after the Mahabharata which is so easy to connect to and still managed to keep the pace and suspense of its own unique story.
I’m super excited to read the sequel as well!
