From Sam’s post:
What would come out of Google if I had it translate some of my favorite book’s synopsis‘? Thus this post was born.
I have way too many favorites to count, so I decided to go with my Top Five Books of 2018 (plus This Mortal Coil even though it was published in 2017). I translated each book’s title & Goodreads synopsis from English to Scottish Gaelic and then back into English, and this was the result. As an aside, Reader Voracious translated back into English is reading books, which is not nearly as funny as some of the results below.
Grab your tea and tissues because… too much laughter causes tears. Click on the titles to be taken to the Goodreads page to see the actual titles and synopses.

As Enne puts out secret secrets about the past, Lebhi’s enemies capture them, being taken into a religious game where the players are always losing. To save it, Enne must surrender to the town …
After SOS has been forced to work in detail on a long planet, a squad crew will be issued to achieve a common mission and rescue.
Most are dead.
But when the crew arrives, they find a abandoned site, broken down with bare food, weapons that were erased … and dead bodies.
Do not drop down here again.
As they try to make each other out what could be done away, they find that some of the best things are buried – and some of the aliens are too ready for wake up.

Alright friends, that was my Top 5 2018 Reads translated badly by Google… what do you think?
I am honestly still wheezing from the Ace of Shades one, that one and Contagion’s are my favorites. Which one did you like the best?
Haha 😁 Makes me think of trying to write a French essay back in high school with “help” from Google Translate. I still remember needing the verb “hide” and getting the noun translation: hide as in “skin”. My teacher was so confused.
Oh my goodness Alex, that is hilarious! Google Translate can be helpful… but English is a rough language with so many homonyms and rules, I don’t think it will ever be perfect.
I am wheezing! WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW ACE OF SHADES HAS ME HOWLING! This is literally a time and a half and I’m so unbelievably flattered that you took inspiration from my post! <3 <3 <3 This was gold.
Contagion honestly sounds like a synopsis for a sexual harrasment charge. "Harrassment
He got in us" A TIME. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your post was such gold and I couldn’t NOT give it a try myself, this was so much fun and I think I might do this yearly with my top reads. Because lololol. Poor Ace of Shades.
I AM WHEEZING at your comment about Contagion. You’re so right! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
OMG Harrassment. LOLOLOLOL. I’ve got to say Contagion is my favorite just for the title itself. I love how Google Translates just butchers these synopses and titles. I’m surprised a little that Mirage survived in the translation of the title, though!
Harassment is by fair the weirdest title, I think! Sam said that it sounds like a sexual harassment charge: “Harassment He got in us” and I am dying from laughter. Google Translate is nice and all… but still not the best.
I found it so ODD that words got repeated so frequently with translating back to English??? Like, how? Why? House of Shades is so funny to me, I don’t even know why.
Minus that Ace of Shades had an unintentional moment of poor translation racism (the brown mafia…), that translation was hilarious. What a fun idea. I love the tool of google translate, but man, it causes some issues too! What a fun post!
omg I forgot about moon moon and I am cracking up all over again. This is really the post that keeps on giving, honestly. “split by embryos” I don’t even LOL
HANDS DOWN. THE ACE OF SHADES TRANSLATION WAS THE BEST. I died at “he is the lord of the street and is a man”. I wonder what Levi would say to THAT. I also wouldn’t call the shadow game “religious”. Enne can attest to that 💀
The Ace of Shades one was definitely the weirdest, and love the “lord of street and is a mam” bit as well! I don’t know Levi would like the box he was being placed in, honestly…
Feel like I’d find this funnier if I’d actually read one of the books from this list oooopsies. Gotta say though, you reminded me I wanted to read Ace of Shades. Oh and just reading the gibberish that’s produced is amusing enough 😉
Oh goodness this is hilarious and fun! Can I steal?? I’ll link back to this 100%. Honestly I love Google translate but I won’t be asking them to translate wording for tattoo’s any time soon!
Please steal, this is literally my new favorite kind of post to read and need more in my life! Be sure to also link back to Sam because I stole it from her heheheh/
OMG I am definitely going to have to try this! I’m a big fan of Translator Fails on YouTube and it’ll be awesome to bring that hilarious energy to some of my favorite books.
“Laura Cruz is a shipwreck studying the galaxy for the history that was scattered to the stars” >> this is my job I think? I already have the “shipwreck” part down 😂 and also “He got in us” coupled with the translated “Harassment” – yikes 😶 Google Translate is so wonderfully awful at grammar, and I love being reminded of this fact every time I get remotely close to worrying about an eventual hostile AI takeover. (and maybe I should lay off the apocalyptic sci-fi for a bit 😅)
I definitely am also a shipwreck. Sam’s comment about “it got in us” plus Harassment sounded like a sexual harassment complaint, and I about died laughing. I can only imagine the amusing lost in translation bits when the robots rise up against us.

Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 this is hilarious and a genius idea, I might have to steal it and do one myself.
Hahaha please do, as I stole it from Sam! I honestly think this is hilarious and want to see more of these posts!
this is hilarious, I should try, with difficult languages
Please do give it a try! I found it so funny that so many of these got serious mucked up after just one language switch.
hi 🙂
this is absolutely hilarious!! I’m still laugh-crying over “Amani is a fourteen brother brother.” I need to try this :’D
It is really amusing to me how many times words got duplicated??? Like what?? Please do try this, I think this may be my new favorite kind of content.
So funny! LOL
I am wheezing! WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW ACE OF SHADES HAS ME HOWLING! This is literally a time and a half and I’m so unbelievably flattered that you took inspiration from my post! <3 <3 <3 This was gold.

I AM WHEEZING at your comment about Contagion. You’re so right! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“He got in us” 💀💀💀 The one for Contagion is pretty bad. 😂 This is a cool post idea!
Thank you but alllllll credit goes to Sam for this one! Contagion’s still cracks me up
This is brilliant and made me laugh out loud several times!
OH YES. COMEDIC GOLD. She is also comedic gold.
Mirage survived and I also found that weird.
I love this post, so funny!! And there are so many possibilities too with all the different languages you can translate back and forth from!
Thank you so much, and I agree! I almost wish I had translated a couple more layers before going back into English, but maybe next time!
Ouhh I love thoses !!
Oh my, some don’t even make sense ahah! Atleast in my french brain at 10pm, specially house of shades 😂 wow all thoses repeated words.. pfft xD
I found it so ODD that words got repeated so frequently with translating back to English??? Like, how? Why? House of Shades is so funny to me, I don’t even know why.
I got too confused to find it funny ahaha yeaah wtf? Like one word out of three got repeated 🤔
That’s hilarious!!
‘Amani is a fourteen brother brother. She dreams about life that was like life’ xD xD
This is a fresh and fun idea! Love it!
Thank you, but all credit goes to Sam for this idea!
And lololol that bit from Mirage’s synopsis is GOLD!
I really enjoyed Ace of Shades. He sent me a tick!
This comment was sent to you via google translate. last sentence was it really tickled me
Lauren you have won the internet today, my friend! This comment is gold. “He sent me a tick!”
Why are you grateful? Try me;)
(Why thank you. i do try 😉 )
Minus that Ace of Shades had an unintentional moment of poor translation racism (the brown mafia…), that translation was hilarious. What a fun idea. I love the tool of google translate, but man, it causes some issues too! What a fun post!
That’s a hilarious one!😂
The search for advertisements< Made me chuckle
But I lost my sh*t at 'split by embryos' Idk why but I couldn't control myself after that point
Also the titles
BROWN BROWN, IT'S MOON MOON'S COUSIN!
omg I forgot about moon moon and I am cracking up all over again. This is really the post that keeps on giving, honestly. “split by embryos” I don’t even LOL
Haha this is such a fun idea 😀 At least the Google translator took the name of Mirage correctly. But the way it tuned the synopsis upside down? Lol 😀
Yeaaaa, I was hopeful with Mirage until I read the synopsis. LOL.
HANDS DOWN. THE ACE OF SHADES TRANSLATION WAS THE BEST. I died at “he is the lord of the street and is a man”. I wonder what Levi would say to THAT. I also wouldn’t call the shadow game “religious”. Enne can attest to that 💀
Great post as always, kal!
Probably true, but if the gibberish did nothing but remind you to read Ace of Shades then mY JOB HERE is DONE
Hahaha what a fun idea, I love it SO much, these synopsis were so much fun to read!! 🙂
Thank you, and I am so glad you enjoyed the post! Honestly this keeps cracking me up and it makes me so happy.
Oh my god this is awesome 😂😂😂 My blog title (Perfectly Tolerable) translates to “Very Positive” 😂
Very Positive 😂😂😂 Something definitely was lost in translation a bit there!
WOW! “in the Cat world” and “Enne must leave her finished school – and her backbone” killed me xD this is fun, would it be ok if I did one of these?
and her backbone legit made me spit out my coffee when I first read it! I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD!
and of course, please do!
i had to read it a couple times bc i thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but yes, probably my favorite one! xD
This is absolutely hilarious. I might give this one a try soon.
Yes, please do it was so much fun to do and I legit need to see more posts like this! IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE!
Will do! 🙂
Have you ever watched Translator Fails on YouTube? She does songs this way, and they are absolutely hilarious!
I love Translator Fails!!!! Her singing the Google translation of Let It Go still cracks me up to this day!
I love this post hahahahaha! I bet you had a fun time doing this as well.
Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoyed it! And yea… I was cackling the whole time!
OMG I am definitely going to have to try this! I’m a big fan of Translator Fails on YouTube and it’ll be awesome to bring that hilarious energy to some of my favorite books.
Translator Fails is one of my favorite things, ahhaahah! Please do this, it was so much fun!
Hilarious!!!! My favourite new title is brown brown and the blurb for “harassment” is so funny!!
Hahahaha, I honestly keep referring to this post on bad days for a laugh. Harassment’s blurb cracks me up every time.
Hehe I can understand that!!
*my dream job, oops!
I definitely am also a shipwreck. Sam’s comment about “it got in us” plus Harassment sounded like a sexual harassment complaint, and I about died laughing. I can only imagine the amusing lost in translation bits when the robots rise up against us.
OMG THIS IS HILARIOUS!!!
Kudos to you and Sam for these posts 😂😂😂 I might try this myself sometime 😊
DO IT DO IT DO IT!
