Ever since Coheed and Cambria dropped The Dark Sentencer on Youtube it’s been Coheed Season over here. I first saw this band in 2003 at Warped Tour and quickly became one of my favorite bands, broadening my horizons from a punk rock/post hardcore kid to progressive rock (and then symphonic metal). As a lover of science fiction, the combination of amazing music and a vast science fiction world + storyline is a recipe for addiction.

This line from Time Consumer off their first album gives me chills. A pulse is something that is always there and we usually don’t notice it, yet it is what keeps us alive. To me this line means that if I can manage to not focus on the pain it will just be a part of me, like the air I breathe, and maybe it won’t bother me.

I saw Coheed last night in Berkeley and it was incredible. Well worth the commute to the Bay Area and dealing with trying to find parking (also I kind of hate Berkeley but whatever). This was my third time seeing them and the first time in 10 years… as amazing as I remember. For those who are fans – their set was opened by Dark Sentencer and then played songs from Second Stage Turbine Blade and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth Volume 3, ending with Unheavenly Creatures (it was so cool to have the old storyline sandwiched by their new one!) and then closing out with Welcome Home. Incredible. I still have chills.
