The Entertaining Blogger Award

Hi my name is Kaleena and I hoard all tags and awards for literal months and am the actual worst. Hi, Kaleena. We all know that I love to hoard tags and awards but the beautiful Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall nominated me for this five months ago. And then my book bestie Christine @ The Uncorked Librarian tagged me last month. I am so honored to be considered entertaining and that my silly comments and references resonate with people! 🏆  I’d like to thank the academy for this honor and my dad for raising me to cherish sarcasm and cultivate a dry wit. 🏆

I must be stopped. But better late than never, right? You all should definitely check out Kelly and Christine’s blogs. They are both absolutely wonderful and deserve all the love in the world!

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
  • Add the rules so others can follow.
  • Answer the questions that have been asked.
  • Nominate a handful of entertaining bloggers.

Kelly’s Questions

1. What genre did you read most before starting your blog?
This is such a good question! I was in a huge science fiction and philosophy kick. I still read sci-fi, but I haven’t picked up Nietzsche or Kundera in while.
2. What genre did fellow bloggers influence your opinion on?
Probably young adult fiction in general. I never really read YA when I was growing up as I went from MG to the Classics and the occasional Dean Koontz book (that I never told people I read because I had a snobby reputation to uphold). I pretty much didn’t read for pleasure much in adulthood until I turned 30, and I assumed that I was outside of the target audience for YA fiction but I realized that the kinds of stories that I resonate with and the themes that I enjoy are prevalent in the sff YA scene thanks to the book blogging community!
3. Favorite book format?
I like all book formats for different reasons! I enjoy hardbacks for the purposes of my personal library, paperback for reading (it’s easier to hold), eBooks for reading in bed and when I am traveling, and audiobooks for road trips. I’ve been buying a lot of hardbacks lately though, which I never used to do.
4. Plants without flowers or plants that have flowers?
Both! I just like nature and plants a lot. Also, sunflowers are the best flower. 🌻
5. Some tropes you love seeing in books?
I really enjoy strong female characters, protagonists that sacrifice themselves, anti-heroes and villain redemption. I like my characters to be put through the wringer and come out changed.
6. A book character you relate to a lot?
I have honestly been thinking about this for three days and no one comes to mind.

Christine’s Questions

  1. Which character would you love to be in a long-term relationship with?
I am boring but I don’t really have book boyfriends. Although I totally would want to marry Alistair from Dragon Age Origins, that’s a video game. swoon
  2. Which character would you have a one night stand with?
OMG. I don’t know and I read a lot of YA and that is a little weird to think about so I am going to pass haha.
  3. What classic puts you to sleep every damn time?
I’ve been trying to read A Tale of Two Cities for the past 20 years. I just can’t. The best cure for insomnia that I have ever found!
  4. Would you date/marry someone who does not read books?  And does his/her/their book choice make or break it for you?  What books on his/her/their shelves are deal breakers?
I could date or marry someone that isn’t a reader provided that they have their own hobbies and passions, and hopefully, something else that we have in common. Reading is a very individual activity so it doesn’t bother me really, although just lounging on the sofa reading quietly would be date goals. In terms of books, no deal breakers. People like different things and I won’t judge someone because of their book choices!
  5. Who is your favorite indie author?
Lindsay Buroker! Her fantasy worlds are absolutely amazing and I love them so much. I highly recommend the Emperor’s Edge series if you love fantasy, politics, steampunk, and villain redemption arcs with a heartwarming romance (and the fact I say this is something… because I don’t really care about romance). The first book in the series is always free for Kindle.
  6. What book gets you most in the mood to travel or fulfills your wanderlust?
Pretty much everything because I have intense wanderlust always and read lots of fantasy.
  7. Did you really like Harry Potter?  Really?
I did, but fun fact: I didn’t read it until I was 30 years old!
  8. Can and have you read books with animals that get hurt or die?  Tell me which ones so I can never EVER read them, please.
I have read books with animal death and I really don’t like it at all. I include this as a cw in all of my reviews.

My Questions

  1. Who is the one character that you’d want to invite over to your house for dinner and why?
  2. What is your favorite reading location?
  3. What is your favorite childhood book?
  4. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
  5. Are you a book monogamist or a book polygamist? (How many books do you read at once?)
  6. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog? If so, how?
  7. What is the book you want to read but are most afraid to begin? Why?

    Loved the Q&A! 🙂

I thought i was the only one who doesn’t have book-boyfriend / bookish crush 😀

YAY I am not the only one without bookish crushes!!!!

And here I thought I was bad at hoarding tags!! But my worst was only like 2 months 😂😂 But the epic sarcasm makes up for it 😀

When I read YA I always read it as if the characters are my age so it doesn’t feel creepy that I am swooning after them 😂😂 even if they tell me their age I forget and think they are my age!!

I’m glad my sarcasm at my own expense makes up for my slackerness. I actually have a Spring Cleaning tag in my drafts because I am terrible.

Ah that’s a good point and I do tend to do the same thing on assuming they are my age, especially if they read mature for their teens!

Lol atleast you actually do the tags! I plan to but then I lose it and end up completely not doing it. Sad face haha

    1. Kaleena @ Reader Voracious

      September 28, 2018 at 4:17 PM

Oh man I would be so guilty of forgetting about them! I started a draft for the tag posts and just plop the nomination links into it. Otherwise I’d never respond.

Thanks for the nomination Kaleena!!! Did you ever get a chance to play more Dragon Age? I was able to sneak in a few hours of playing! Great answers though haha, and I’m looking forward to answering your questions!

You’re welcome, Julia! Looking forward to your responses!

And I haven’t had a chance yet. I got sucked into Subnautica. I think next weekend shall be dedicated to playing DAO through, though!

Love your answers, Kaleena! And hahaha, I don’t want to think about what characters I would have a one night stand with either! 😂

Bahahahaha, yea it is a little weird to me for some reason? I don’t mind others thinking about it but I just can’t!

Lovely answers! And don’t you worry about being late for this, I mean… I keep tags waiting for YEARS, no kidding I have some dated back to 2015 so you’re not the worst here haha 😛

      September 28, 2018 at 4:23 PM

Marie your level of procrastination is honestly goals and thank you for sharing lol. The oldest that I have is the Spring Cleaning tag, which I am considering posting unironically in November.

Well really it’s just – years of blogging and I don’t have time to do them all, nor do I want to focus on doing tags all the time, so… they quickly pile up 😂😂😂😂

Yes! I love nature too – i recently bought a succulent but my bf killed it :O

      September 28, 2018 at 4:26 PM

Yay nature! Sadly I have a black thumb, I kill everything even though I try so hard not to! I even killed a succulent. That was the moment that I decided to only get plastic plants.

Ha! Just so you know, I’ll join you in hoarding all the tags and awards – I don’t even know if I keep track of them all now. Help, I’m failing. 😂😂😂

I agree with not having a significant other who reads – I would hope we have something else in common as well, but reading isn’t a requirement (it would be nice though). I wouldn’t have a one night stand with a YA character – weird (I mean, not really depending on age), but also I WOULD END UP ATTACHED FOR SURE??? I can’t. 🤭

    1. Kaleena @ Reader Voracious

      September 28, 2018 at 4:29 PM

I started just creating a draft post for each tag I get and putting the nomination link in it. That’s a big reason I have 101 drafts going… yikes.

Oh yea I also would probably be attached, I didn’t even think about that because I was too bothered by the though of pretend-sleeping with a character half my age.

Bahahha I’m cracking up at your one night stand answer. WELL PLAYED.

But also, you aren’t alone in the book tag hoarding!!!

    1. Kaleena @ Reader Voracious

      September 28, 2018 at 4:30 PM

A 17 year old is half my age. Thinking about it makes me feel prehistoric.

I loved your answers. Your dad raised you well indeed. =P The tropes you mentioned are some of my favourites too. I love strong female characters that break stereotypes and antiheroes. Thank you for including on your reviews if an animal dies. That’s the kind of book I can’t read without crying or thinking about my Mufasa (however, one my favourite book does feature an animal death; it broke my heart in pieces).

    Happy readings! 😉

Mufasa! I am still not over it, I was traumatized in theatres! And thank you, I think my dad did pretty well.
      Thanks so much for visiting!!!

It may have taken a while to finish these tags, but I am glad that you did because I love your answers!

Before coming into the blogging community I solely read fantasy and contemporary. I ran away from anything that resembled a horror book. But now, I have a whole community to help me figure out which horror books have just the right amount of spook for my fragile soul and to get me out of my fantasy bubble.

Recently, my favorite tropes are the friends-to-lovers relationship, morally gray characters, like you, strong female leads.

      September 28, 2018 at 4:33 PM

I’m so glad that you loved my answers, yay!

I think the book blogging community is PERFECT for horror/spooky recommendations. I have a wide interest in the genre but man… some books/movies are just gorefests. And that’s not for everyone. It is nice that people like you can find books through recs!

Thank you so much, and glad I wasn’t the latest person to the Harry Potter party! I hope you enjoy the books if you decide to pick them up
