We all know that I like to hoard my tags like a greedy dragon, but this is going to shock you. Almost one year ago Jess and Teagan @ Fiction No Chaser tagged me in the Spring Cleaning tag and I proceeded to hold onto it until it became springtime again. Because of course I did. But I’ve been doing some Spring Cleaning of my post drafts since it is springtime in the Northern hemisphere and it looks like so much fun that today is the day, friends!
If you aren’t already following Fiction No Chaser, you really should rectify that immediately because their reviews are hilarious, boozy, and honest. And they are awesome people to boot.

It’s time to make your bed, but you’re going to have some friends over later and want to pick the perfect book to place on your nightstand for them all to see that you’re “reading”. Which book do you choose?
This question cracks me up because it assumes that I’m not a hermit and have people over these days, but also because I’ve had A Tale of Two Cities on my nightstand for like fifteen years. I want to read it but my goodness does it bore me!
Oh no! The house needs dusting, but you just can’t put that book you’re reading down! What book would you buy on audio just so you could continue the story while cleaning?
I will forever listen to the Illuminae Files audiobooks. In fact any time that I am on a plane or cleaning I tend to listen to Gemina.
Darn it! The ceiling is leaking! Turns out Mass-Market Paperbacks are the best things to soak water up! Which popular book do you use to soak up the water?
This question has caused me a lot of turmoil because on one hand, I don’t want to shit on a book that someone else enjoys, but on the other hand, The Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll angered me so freaking much that I would want to destroy every copy.
Bathrooms need a good scrubbing, and your 2007 Cosmos are a little outdated and need replacing. What book do you place in the bathroom for some light reading for when people need to take care of business?
I have two years worth of The New Yorker in my bathroom for those guests that never come, but I tend to just bring whatever book I am reading with me when I need to take care of business myself.
Family is coming over, but you have no idea what to make for dinner! You read somewhere that tearing up the last chapter of a book whose ending you hated and sprinkling it in a casserole dish makes for the perfect meal! Which book do you choose?
This is a really weird recipe, but Rule by Ellen Goodlett was a book that I hated a lot.
Organization is key, right? When it comes time to organize your bookshelf, you realize you have enough room (and money) to get three new books! Which books do you buy?
This is insanely difficult for me because until very recently I have been fortunate enough to be able to buy the books I wanted. Most of the ones I want haven’t been released yet, so assuming that there is time travel involved: This Vicious Cure by Emily Suvada, A House of Rage and Sorrow by Sangu Mandanna, and Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse in paperback to match my copy of Trail of Lightning.
Finally, some peace and quiet! But, before you can relax, you realize you forgot to send your Aunt a thank you gift for the lovely “ADULT LIFE FOR DUMMIES” book she gave you for Christmas (maybe she’s trying to tell you something?). What book do you send to her to show her how much (this is sarcasm) you appreciate her gift?
I am stealing Teagan’s answer here: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson.
Tagging
Ruby | Sam | Dev | Bex | Taylor | & you if you want!
Let’s go on another adventure together!
Thanks for the tag, Kal! I too, find A Tale of Two Cities hard to get through and LIVE for the Illuminae Files audiobooks. 🙌🏼
You’re welcome, Dev! I’ve literally been trying to read a Tale of Two Cities since the eleventh grade but can’t get past chapter 2. It’s my albatross. HUZZAH FOR ILLUMINAE AUDIOBOOKS!
Luckiest Girl Alive made me really angry too!
Ugh that book!!! I swear I read it two years ago and my rage still burns so freaking hot
The title of this post is A Mood tbh.
Have you watched The Good Place?? (no spoilers) At one point, a character is locked in a room for all of eternity and is only given a pile of New Yorker magazines and they yell “nooooo we know I’m never going to read those!!!”
HAHAHAHA. I am the literal worst about hoarding tags and I wish I could say this was the only one from almost a year ago…
I love The Good Place and that scene made me laugh so hard because it’s kind of true. I read the first couple of issues when I first subscribed but I haven’t for like 2 years…
I definitely have a couple of tags saved for Christmas/New Years time because I never get to them in time lmao
LOL, a fun post, thanks for sharing
Thanks for reading!
A YEAR. I’m impressed and terrified by your tag hoarding abilities.
I KNOW, I am still laughing at myself over this. I think the Fifa World Cup tag may be the worst one I’ve hoarded though… I will need to hang onto it for 3 more years for it to be relevant again lmao
This is HILARIOUS, and now I feel like I should go do the one I was tagged in!! 😂
Thank you, I’m glad you found this fun! And DO IT!!!
I’m totes with you on the first question 😀 I have only one friend who ever comes over, and usually only when i’m away and she’s looking after my cat 😀 Plus she couldn’t care less about my books, haha.
Illuminae audio is an amazing choice!
I’m listening now to Hydra by Matt Wesolowski which is another good one with full cast. Prolly a bit too dark when i’m trying to motivate myself to clean the house.
HAHAHA yea most of the time someone comes over it’s to take care of my cat, too.
I am going to have to check out Hydra… I am addicted to fullcast audios now.
Hahahaha, hoarding tags, that’s hilarious 😀
Love this one, may have to fill it out for myself.
YOU DON’T KNOW THE EXTENT OF MY HOARDING. I have so many, it is kind of disturbing.
And you should do it, this is a great tag & I love seeing people’s answers.
I’ve never read this tag or done these books but this tag was hilarious!! 😂😂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed reading!
dslkdhjkAHSJ THIS TAG IS SO MUCH FUN. also same to listening to the illuminae files! def would add some entertainment when cleaning!
ISN’T IT THE BEST!?!?!?! And let me tell you, cleaning the kitchen is vastly improved with the illuminae files.
This was hilarious! What a fun idea. Ha – we all have that book that we just want to throw in the fire. And I am like you – I am always worried about putting an “I hate this book” out there because I am sure to get some pushback!
And I 100% agree with you about A Tale of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities is so boring. I just can’t. The worst of times are the thousand times I have read that opening chapter.
Hoarding tags is such a mood. And this looks like a fun one 😂
My drafts are a frightening place, Para! But this is definitely one of the more fun tags I’ve seen.
I’ve had Good Omens on my bedside table for a long time, and I want to read it so bad, but I’m still prioritising university reading. One day I’ll get to it!
That will be such a good reward when you have a break from university reading! I actually want to re-read that book this year if I can find the time.
tbh I’m also hoarding some seasonal tags (Lunar New Year comes to mind, off the top of my head), no shame in that 😉
I totally relate to your first response, honestly I can’t remember the last time anyone outside my immediate family was in my childhood bedroom — and if you replace “immediate family” with “suitemates,” the same is true of my dorm room! also, I have been in a very long-term on and off relationship with Moby-Dick and I’m honestly ready to give up soon.
I’ve heard you gush about the Illuminae audiobooks for a while and *glances away* still have yet to get my hands on them (it’s really hard to get library holds of both the audio and print copies at the same time, and I don’t listen to enough audiobooks to justify subscribing to any services) … someday though.
that recipe has me half curious to try it and half terrified.
also um wow I would LOVE to time travel for future releases. especially to continue a series, because I don’t have the self-control to wait until they’re all released to start the first one 😅
YAY I am glad to not be the only one! I may have a FIFA World Cup tag from last year that I will need to hoard for 3 more years, lol. I should just delete that draft tbh.
I went through a stint of using Moby Dick as a cure for insomnia about 12 years ago, it always put me to sleep without fail. Honestly I think we will be okay with not reading these classics by white men.
I hope you are able to get ahold of the Illuminae books & audios! If we ever are near one another you can have my pb copy of Illuminae… I replaced with with hardcover haha.
that’s actually such an awesome idea, I haven’t used any specific books as sleeping aids on purpose but there are definitely a few that I would fall asleep on if I tried to read them before bed 🤔 and yup I agree, my life is probably completely enough without having read them, haha.
everyone audiobook fan seems to reach for illuminae series, its wild that sucha visual book works so well audibly too
Lauren the illuminae audiobooks are auditory masterpieces. Granted the first time I read them, it was along with the physical book so it enhanced my experience more than anything, but so good. SOUND EFFECTS!
