sentranced (adj.): the state of being captivated by a well-written sentence.
Sentranced Saturday is a weekly meme created here that encourages you to share a quote that left you entranced. It makes you think. I have a little notebook that I carry with me everywhere to write down quotes that inspire me in some way, and I am sure that I am not alone! Everyone is welcome to participate, please be sure to link to this post so I can see all of your quotes!
“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.”
I am in a bit of a moment right now, and instead of wallowing I decided to bring myself back to joy. I put on Simple Man by Lynard Skynard (always calms me down, next is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon!) and turned to my quotebook for inspiration. As always, Thich Nhat Hanh, along with Simple Man, delivered me back to peace.
There really isn’t a way to adequately describe my thoughts on this quote without writing an essay, but one thing that I love about Buddhism (and existential philosophy) is the focus on the control you have over your emotions and life. Letting go of that which shackles you – whatever that may be – is something that only you have the power to do.
It’s hard, but I will always do my best to choose freedom and joy. Do you have tools that you use to return to joy when something angers or upsets you?
What do you think about this quote, and what quote do you want to share this week?
